Overview of Use: RFRain was tasked by KPMG to implement a state of the RFID solution for a 5G enabled warehouse. The goal was to allow the staff to be able to monitor know in real time the exact location of each item within a warehouse in real time.
Identified Problem: It is a very time consuming task and expensive task to count every item in a warehouse on a
regular basis. In effect, the current process involves shutting down a facility for about a month, and hire a large staff to perform the inventory count of around 200000 items. As a result, the facility was looking to automate the process to allow inventory count to be as accurate as possible on a daily basis.
Solution: RFRain installed overhead readers on every entrance and exit. In addition, RFRain installed readers on every scanning zone. Further, RFRain installed handhelds on every mobile cart to allow the staff to perform spot checks or allow the staff to quickly check the content of a pallet inside the warehouse. Finally, RFRain installed a reader on a robot, and controlled the robot in order to scan every shelf of the warehouse on a nightly basis.
Outcome: Using RFRain Inventory solution in tandem with the customer’s WMS, the customer was able to keep track of every asset that is slated for inbound or outbound shipment. In addition, the movement of every asset was
monitored in real time throughout the facility using RFID to ensure that every asset drop location is identified
properly. RFRain achieved a very high read success rate at over 97% accuracy.
Technology Used:
Hardware:
RFRain installed an RFR-RAIN-4-SMART reader with 4 antennas on every exit and transit door. Thus the movement
of every pallet and or asset was sent in real time to the WMS and RWS.
RFRain installed an RFR-RAIN-4-SMART-ADV reader on a conveyor belt to route RFID tagged assets to their proper
location. RFID is a lot less expensive and is 99% accurate over a traditional barcode reader.
RFRain installed an RFR-RAIN-4-SMART-ADV reader with a battery on several AMR’s and LGV’s robots to ensure
that the payload that each robot is carrying is accurate.
RFRain installed an RFR-RAIN-4-SMART-ADV reader with a battery on an Inventory count AMR, and controlled the
robot through its proprietary software ( Method Patent Pending ) to provide the accurate location of each asset on each shelf.
RFRain installed several RFR-RAIN-1-HANDHLED to allow the staff to perform spot counts or basis walk through
scanning at a very high rate.
RFRain installed several RFR-RAIN-1-GATEWAY with cameras within the facility to monitor the activity in real time.
Software: The RFRain RFID reader comes pre-installed with the RFR-Zone Manager , and RFR-Zone Manager Mobile software.
On Premise Software: The RWS provides valuable data to the staff such as the location and time of detection of each asset. In addition, the RWS provides the status of each device in real time.
Tags: RFRain provided the warehouse with an RFID labeled tag to allow the staff to scan the item using a barcode or
an RFID handheld or fixed reader.
Services: RFRain provided installation and commissioning support
Cybersecurity: RFRain uses hardened OS that are DISA STIG compliant on all its servers.
