Overview of Use: Writel from Bolivia needed to track health care documents with the NHS in Bolivia, whenever the
documents move from zone to zone within a series of hospitals.
Identified Problem: It is a very time difficult task to be able to track documents that move across room or floors within
the hospital in order to be able to correctly identify the location of each paper. Further, papers often get lost, and the
staff takes a long time to recognize where the paper assets are located. The current implementation was handling about 10000 assets a day.
Solution: Writel placed a UHF RFID tag on each folder or important document. In addition, Writel in partnership
with RFRain, installed antennas on every exit and entry doorway of the hospital for a total of 75 POE+ readers and 300 antennas. Further, Writel integrated with the RFRain readers using RFRain Rest API in a polling mechanism to read the data on a regular basis. As a result, an RFRain reader stores the antenna name or zone along with the tag number each time a tagged document enters of exit a particular zone. The data is then retrieved from the medical software application and is stored on an on premise server securely.
Outcome: Using RFRain’s doorway asset tracking solutions of medical records allowed the hospital to keep track of its records across the hospital in real time.
Technology Used:
Hardware:
RFRain installed 75 RFR-RAIN-4-SMART POE+ readers with 4 antennas on every doorway inside a hospital. Thus the
movement of every health record and or asset is stored on the reader and retrieved by the Healthcare software
application in real time.
Software: The RFRain RFID reader comes pre-installed with the RFR-Zone Manager.
Services: RFRain provided consulting support.
Cybersecurity: RFRain uses hardened OS, and provide the appropriate certificates to enable secure communication over a TLS encrypted channel between the reader and the application.
